Meet this classy gelding...STERLING IS HIS NAME!

New to the Wild Deuce family is "STERLING" he is a nice big stout gelding. He is 11 years old around 15'2hh possibly 15'3hh with great bone, good size foot and a nice kind relaxed eye. I bought him from a really nice women I met in the winter and ended up telling her how much I like greys and buying her winter blankets! She ended up getting pregnant and not having time for her grey gelding so she called me.

I watched her trainer ride him in a very soggy arena after all the rain down here.

He looks like he another full package gelding that will also be offered for sale at the Working Mountain Horse Challenge this September. I think this year might be the best line up of horses to date! I haven't even added all the excellent consignor horses yet but have seen and rode with many of them so far out in the hills. Our Catalogue on northernhorse.com will be complete by August 1st but make sure to check on the blog for horse updates as well. Remember if your interested in any of the horses do your homework and come out and meet them before sale day!

The boys checking out the new kid on the block!

Some of the superstars from Calgary Stampede!

Zip is one good looking gelding who offers the whole package. He is not a big horse, has eye appeal and doing excellent in his training!

Chuck with the horses who went to Calgary Stampede. He is touching Zip, Billy is the palamino and Rusty is in the back ground. All three are headed to our Working Mountain Horse Sale this Septmeber. Zip and Billy are in our dude line this summer thus far. Rusty can be used in the dude line but for advanced riders because he likes to move. He is so much fun to ride...he is sure footed, covers ground and I have a blast riding him! They are headed back to the mountains after their time in the city!

New Horse for Wild Deuce a blue roan mare!

Meet the newest addition to the Wild Deuce family a nice blue roan mare who is a Canadian cross. She is 8 years old and 15ish hands (haven't measured her yet). She comes from Ron & Eileen who we bought Mazy from last year. They are experienced mountain riders in their 60's and currently ride out west. Mazy was an amazing mare we sold at last years sale, they had another mare for sale this year so after riding with them and watching them ride her we bought her. She is currently un-named! Will update you as we get to know this mare more. I have had her in the pack string already and she did good! She will be for sale this fall in our Mountain Horse Sale! Watch for her on the catalogue!

Milly has 8 Gorgeous puppies....surprised with 2 reds!

One of the cute red & white pups..

The birth day!

Milly and the kids loaded in the truck ready to go to camp!

While I was in Calgary Milly snuck under Brenda & Guys barn and had her puppies, we had to rip up a floor board to get her. I am super excited about this litter because of the color, Milly's grandpa was full red and we see she is thrown color. We were going to breed her to Blaine's male but Milly had an idea of her own and got together with a border collie at Brenda's ranch only a few days before she was to visit Blaines dog. But hindsight with the color I am happy and there are so many! There are 3 females and 5 males. There are two red and white that are almost choclolate in color, one is male and one is female. The rest are well marked black and white puppies with nice blazes. We have one of Milly's puppies from a previous litter (kitty) and she is a tremendous working dog she is a strong aggressive dog that is quite small but you would never know it. She is here to view if you would like to see her work along with the puppies sire and uncles.

I am currently taking deposits on the puppies: I am asking $500.00 for the red & white puppies and $350.00 for the black & white. First come, first pick, they will be ready to go the end of August and you can pick them up at our mountain base camp or we can make other arrangements! They will have their first shots and worming. Calgary Stampede 2010!

We've got two days left to go at Stampede! We've had lots of friends show up to say "Hi!" and we hope to see you down at the grounds. We're doing two shows a day at 1:30 and 3:30 PM in the Agricultural Building (the big green one south of the Saddledome). We're having a lot of fun - as usual - but missing our Terri! She was injured last week but was hoping to come down today. I'm trying to fill in for her but it just isn't the same...
Wrangler Heidi came down the other day for our annual Stampede Party, and she joined us in the demo ring on Sunday, as did Brenda's husband Guy. Thanks Heidi and Guy!

Whoever set up the demo ring put a big stack of good hay bales in the corner....guess where the horses head when we turn them loose? Free hay! Yahoo! Makes for a good laugh anyway. Ya Ya Susan and her daughter made a guest appearance yesterday as well, when they ran into the ring with a big purple suitcase for us to pack on the horse!

Brenda explains what makes a good pack horse.

We saddle up our horse!

Riding to the demo ring.

Untacking the horses at the end of a great day!

Chef Brian!

Cheers to our Chef, Brian! He did the honors for our Cattle Call and Clinic last weekend, and will be joining us again for our August pack trips. Brian took care of feeding 16 guests, our friends and the Wild Deuce staff...and did an awesome job of it. Good job buddy! Can't wait til you come back!

Ride Cowboy!

We just got back into internet-land! We had a great weekend with our 2010 Mountain Cattle Call guests! Our new cowboys and cowgirls helped us round up and move our cows, and literally learned the ropes about roping, doctoring cows and tagging calves. We had a great time with our new friends over the Saturday night beer tasting - which went into the wee hours... The weather was great and we enjoyed some fantastic riding as well. On Sunday we headed AWAY from the cows, took a ride down the trail and had lunch and cowboy coffee along the river. A big thanks to our friends Guy, John and Grant, who helped us cowboy for the weekend.

We packed Zip with a couple salt blocks to take out to the cows. He doesn't seem to be too concerned...looks like he's taking a quick snooze!

Guy has a calf on the rope while his dog goes head to head with Mom!

Chuck holds a cow while Guy administers an injection.

The group has lunch on the trail; Chuck and Guy stoke the fire for fresh cowboy coffee!

Here's a shot of the whole group - YEEHAW!

Another great day! The group heads home after rounding up the herd.

Slim looks out over the cows...

Cowboys and Cowgirls try their hand at roping! OK - I gotta mention the guy in the red - Sasha. This guy deserves the honorary cowboy award of the trip! He was so into it; he practiced roping and even tried roping off his mount, Hitman (I think they got along great!). He was even up at the same time I was...and ready to saddle and ride!
